I am always advocating for investing in classic, timeless furniture that’s going to last decades. But that’s not to say I don’t keep a close eye on furniture trends, because, unlike many more transient, easy to switch in and out, trends, for a furniture trend to catch on with designers, they have to be good. And by good, I mean worth the investment and commitment that comes with buying new furniture.

No furniture trend you find here won’t have longevity too, these are just all the looks that are big for 2025 and beyond. So, whether you are looking for a new stylish sofa and intrigued by what shapes are in this year, or after inspiration for materials, colors, and prints, you’ll find plenty of ideas here.

If you are after a furniture trend you can incorporate into your home quickly and easily, this is one for you. I have been seeing couch toppers everywhere recently, and when I spoke with designer Raili Clasen she confirmed that they are a couch trend to pay attention to.

‘Sofa toppers are the new design darling in our studio,’ Raili explains. ‘Adding print and texture to thin, quilted toppers gives a new look to solid sofas. PLUS, they can be cleaned and save the wear and tear of the seat cushions over time.’

You can have one made bespoke for your couch, but as the trend has grown, as have more affordable options. You’ll now find stylish toppers at West Elm, GreenRow, and Pottery Barn, to name a few.

Use of mixed materials in a single piece of furniture Curved furniture with soft and inviting curves is still very much on trend, as seen in Joanna Gaines’ use of a curved couch in a sunroom remodel. The new trend for 2025 is that curved furniture is not limited to modern minimalist spaces but can add character to any room. Lulu & Georgia’s Spring 2025 collection showcases this shift in the use of curves, creating characterful and rich spaces with soft edges.

Gray Walker Interiors’ director, Gray Walker, plans to continue incorporating curved surfaces and plushy furniture in her designs, emphasizing the comfort and ease that soft edges bring to a room.

In terms of upholstery, Victoria Sass from Prospect Studio predicts a rise in uniquely upholstered designs in 2025. Upholstery is not limited to seating but can be added to new and inventive places, such as a skirted coffee table or a fully upholstered custom desk. Skirts instead of cabinet doors and unexpected upholstery placements are also gaining popularity.

Vintage and thrifted finds are becoming increasingly popular in home decor, with a focus on sustainability and adding character to spaces. Designers and experts emphasize the value of artistry and craftsmanship in vintage furniture, creating curated collections of unique pieces that reflect individual tastes and stories.

Statement stone, such as marble and granite, will continue to be timeless in interior design, but 2025 will see a rise in more colorful and statement stones. Nate Berkus highlights the trend for colorful stone, such as Rosso marble, in adding luxury and brightness to interior items. Stone such as travertine, marble, and onyx will bring a sense of luxury and brightness to spaces in 2025 and beyond. Harriet Pringle from second-hand marketplace Narchie notes that marble, a timeless material, will be featured prominently throughout homes. From bold pieces in the kitchen and bathroom to coffee tables, cabinets, trays, candlesticks, lamp bases, bowls, and bookends, marble will add a touch of elegance.

Additionally, the bobbin furniture trend is gaining popularity, characterized by stacked uniform balls in distinctly rounded shapes. Sophie Salata predicts that this trend will continue to grow in 2026, offering a classic yet whimsical touch to interior spaces.

In terms of color trends for 2025 and beyond, natural materials like wood and earthy tones such as green, brown, and cream will prevail. Caramel tones are highlighted as a versatile and warm option that complements various decor styles. Designers are also incorporating rich jewel tones and vibrant color palettes on statement furniture pieces like sofas and lounge chairs to create impactful spaces that influence moods and wellness. Embrace your playful and nostalgic side by experimenting with patterns and textures to create a joyful atmosphere in your home. The key takeaway from furniture trends for 2025 is that classic, characterful, and comfortable looks are in. Designing homes that are durable and timeless is a priority, which is why many trends draw inspiration from the past. Could you please rewrite this sentence? Please rewrite this sentence.
