Designing a bathroom requires a careful balance of functional layout and stylish features. The plumbing has to be considered when choosing the location of the shower, bathtub, and sinks, yet you also want them to look visually appealing, too, which sometimes means thinking outside of the design norms.

That’s exactly what Emily Henderson had to do in her latest project – the renovation of her sister-in-law’s bathroom. The long, rectangular room features more windows than the average bathroom, which meant the designer had to come up with some rather unexpected solutions to make the bathroom function well whilst also maintaining the style and visual appeal she’s renowned for.

Creating a bathroom that is both functional and stylish requires careful consideration. The layout of the plumbing must be taken into account when positioning the shower, bathtub, and sinks, but it is also important to ensure that these elements are visually appealing. This often involves thinking creatively and stepping outside of traditional design norms.

In her recent project renovating her sister-in-law’s bathroom, Emily Henderson faced the challenge of working with a long, rectangular room that had more windows than usual. To make the space both functional and aesthetically pleasing, she had to come up with some unconventional solutions.

The newly renovated bathroom is described as a ‘serene airy bathroom’ with neutral colors, natural wood tones, and elegant gold hardware. The space is divided into two zones, with the vanity area in the front half and the shower and bath at the far end, separated by a glass screen.

The wet room section of the bathroom features white tiled walls and a herringbone patterned gray-toned tile floor. Despite the distinct zones, the cohesive design is maintained through matching wall lights and gold hardware throughout.

The focal point of the bathroom is the vanity area, which features a wood double vanity topped with a thick quartz countertop from Caesarstone with integrated sinks. The wall-mounted design creates the illusion of a larger space and provides ample storage with woven baskets underneath.

A unique feature of the bathroom is the placement of pill-shaped vanity mirrors above the vanity. Despite being positioned over windows, the mirrors allow natural light to flow in and are complemented by ceiling-mounted vanity lights, providing ample lighting for grooming.
